ACT 1
FADE IN:
EXT. SPACE ? THE USS ENTERPRISE IN ORBIT AROUND AN UNCHARTED PLANET
INT. ENTERPRISE ? BRIDGE
Kirk is in the captain's chair. Spock is at his station, analyzing data. Uhura is at communications, and Sulu is at the helm.
Kirk:
Mr. Spock, what do we know about this planet?
Spock:
Captain, the planet is designated Xantora IV. Scanners indicate it is uninhabited, but there are unusual energy readings emanating from the surface. They appear to be artificial in nature.
Kirk:
Artificial? Could there be a civilization down there?
Spock:
Unlikely, Captain. There are no signs of life. The energy readings are consistent with ancient technology, possibly remnants of a long-lost civilization.
Uhura:
Captain, I?m picking up faint signals. They?re highly fragmented and in a language not in our databases.
Kirk:
Interesting. Spock, prepare an away team. You, McCoy, and I will beam down to investigate. Mr. Scott, you have the conn.
Scotty:
Aye, Captain.
CUT TO:
EXT. XANTORA IV ? PLANET SURFACE
The away team materializes in the midst of ancient ruins, surrounded by dilapidated structures and strange alien technology.
McCoy:
(Scanning with his tricorder)
Jim, this place gives me the creeps. It?s like a ghost town.
Kirk:
Stay alert. Spock, can you make sense of these structures?
Spock:
(Examining an alien inscription)
Fascinating. These inscriptions suggest a civilization with advanced technological capabilities. Their language structure is unlike any we?ve encountered.
Suddenly, an ancient defense system activates, and energy beams shoot towards the team.
Kirk:
Take cover!
The team dives behind rubble as the beams narrowly miss them. Spock recalibrates his tricorder.
Spock:
Captain, these are automated defense mechanisms. They seem to be protecting something of importance.
Kirk:
Can you disable them?
Spock:
(Working with his tricorder)
I believe so. If I can interface with the control panel over there.
Kirk covers Spock as he moves to the panel and begins working on it. The beams stop firing.
Kirk:
Good work, Spock. Let?s move forward.
CUT TO:
INT. ANCIENT RUIN ? MAIN CHAMBER
The team enters a vast chamber with a large, partially buried portal-like device. The room is filled with alien consoles and holographic displays.
Spock:
(Captivated by the portal)
Captain, this appears to be a gateway of some sort. The technology is far beyond our current understanding.
McCoy:
Great. More things we don?t understand.
Kirk:
Spock, can you get it operational?
Spock:
Given time, I believe so.
Kirk:
Alright, let?s set up a perimeter and get to work. We need to understand what this is and why it?s here.
FADE OUT.
ACT 2
FADE IN:
EXT. XANTORA IV ? NIGHT
The away team has set up equipment around the portal. Spock is deep in study, while McCoy examines the surroundings.
McCoy:
(Speaking to Kirk)
Jim, there?s something eerie about this place. It's too quiet.
Kirk:
Stay sharp, Bones. Spock, any progress?
Spock:
I have deciphered more of the inscriptions. It appears this portal was used by the ancient inhabitants of this planet to travel vast distances instantaneously.
Kirk:
Instantaneous travel? Like a transporter?
Spock:
No, Captain. This is far more advanced. The inscriptions suggest it can traverse both space and time.
McCoy:
Time travel? That?s playing with fire, Spock.
Spock:
Indeed, Doctor. However, the technology is currently inactive. It seems the power source has been depleted.
Kirk:
Can we reactivate it?
Spock:
Theoretically, yes. We would need to find a compatible power source or create a makeshift one.
Kirk:
Do it. We need to understand what happened to these people.
Suddenly, Uhura?s voice comes over the communicator.
Uhura (over communicator):
Captain, we?re detecting an unidentified ship entering the planet?s orbit.
Kirk:
Acknowledged, Uhura. Keep us informed. Kirk out.
CUT TO:
INT. ENTERPRISE ? BRIDGE
Uhura and Scotty are monitoring the sensors. An alien ship appears on the viewscreen.
Uhura:
Mr. Scott, the ship is hailing us.
Scotty:
On screen.
An alien commander appears on the viewscreen. He has a stern, authoritarian presence.
Alien Commander:
This is Commander Valis of the Tholian Assembly. You are trespassing on protected territory. Explain yourselves.
Scotty:
This is Lieutenant Commander Montgomery Scott of the USS Enterprise. We?re conducting a scientific investigation. We mean no harm.
Commander Valis:
Leave immediately, or face the consequences.
Scotty:
Captain Kirk and our away team are on the surface. We need time to recall them.
Commander Valis:
You have one hour. Do not test our patience.
The screen goes dark.
Uhura:
Scotty, we better warn the Captain.
Scotty:
Aye, Uhura. Open a channel.
CUT TO:
EXT. XANTORA IV ? MAIN CHAMBER
Kirk?s communicator beeps. He answers it.
Kirk:
Kirk here.
Scotty (over communicator):
Captain, we have a situation. A Tholian ship has just arrived. They?re demanding we leave immediately. They?ve given us one hour.
Kirk:
Understood. Keep them talking, Scotty. We?ll be back soon. Kirk out.
McCoy:
Tholians. Just what we needed.
Kirk:
Spock, any chance we can wrap this up quickly?
Spock:
I will expedite my efforts, Captain.
FADE OUT.
ACT 3
FADE IN:
INT. ANCIENT RUIN ? MAIN CHAMBER
Spock is working diligently on the portal. Kirk and McCoy stand guard, watching for any signs of trouble.
Spock:
Captain, I have managed to partially restore power to the portal. It should be operational, but I cannot guarantee stability.
Kirk:
Understood, Spock. Let?s see what this thing can do.
Spock activates the portal. A shimmering vortex appears within the frame.
McCoy:
I have a bad feeling about this, Jim.
Kirk:
We need to take the risk, Bones. Spock, any idea where it leads?
Spock:
The coordinates are pre-set. It?s impossible to determine the destination without further analysis.
Kirk:
We?re going in. Spock, McCoy, stay here and monitor. If anything goes wrong, shut it down.
Kirk steps towards the portal. The scene shimmers and changes as he steps through.
CUT TO:
INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION ? ANCIENT CITY
Kirk finds himself in a bustling city, with inhabitants going about their daily lives. He observes the advanced technology and vibrant culture. Suddenly, a figure approaches him.
Ancient Leader:
Welcome, traveler. I am Loran, leader of Xantora. You have much to learn.
Kirk:
I?m Captain James T. Kirk of the starship Enterprise. We found your portal and need to understand what happened to your civilization.
Loran:
All in good time, Captain. But first, there is something you must see.
CUT TO:
INT. ANCIENT CITY ? CENTRAL HALL
Loran leads Kirk to a grand hall filled with holographic displays. He activates one, showing the history of Xantora.
Loran:
Our people once thrived, harnessing the power of the stars. But our ambition led to our downfall. The portal you found is a remnant of our greatest achievement?and our greatest mistake.
Kirk:
What happened?
Loran:
We attempted to control time itself. The resulting instability tore our world apart. Those who survived sealed the portal to prevent further catastrophe.
Kirk:
We need to shut it down permanently. There are others who might misuse it.
Loran:
You are wise, Captain. But beware?the portal has a guardian. You must face it to succeed.
FADE OUT.
ACT 4
FADE IN:
INT. ANCIENT RUIN ? MAIN CHAMBER
The portal remains active, with Spock and McCoy monitoring it closely.
McCoy:
What?s taking him so long?
Spock:
Time may flow differently on the other side. We must remain patient.
Suddenly, the portal flickers, and a menacing, energy-based guardian emerges.
Spock:
Doctor, get back!
The guardian attacks, and Spock defends with his phaser, but it has little effect.
McCoy:
Spock, we need to find another way!
Spock:
The control panel. If we can overload it, we might disrupt the guardian?s energy matrix.
McCoy provides cover as Spock works on the panel. The guardian grows more aggressive.
CUT TO:
INT. UNKNOWN LOCATION ? ANCIENT CITY
Kirk faces the guardian in the central hall.
Guardian:
You shall not pass.
Kirk:
I don?t have time for this.
Using his phaser, Kirk aims at the guardian?s core. The guardian falters, giving Kirk an opening to deactivate the portal from the other side.
CUT TO:
INT. ANCIENT RUIN ? MAIN CHAMBER
Spock succeeds in overloading the control panel. The guardian flickers and vanishes.
McCoy:
Is it over?
The portal deactivates, and Kirk steps through, looking weary but triumphant.
Kirk:
It?s over. Let?s get back to the ship.
FADE OUT.
ACT 5
FADE IN:
EXT. SPACE ? THE USS ENTERPRISE IN ORBIT
INT. ENTERPRISE ? BRIDGE
Kirk, Spock, and McCoy return to the bridge. Scotty is at the helm, with Uhura at communications.
Scotty:
Welcome back, Captain. The Tholians are getting restless.
Kirk:
Open a channel.
Uhura opens the channel. Commander Valis appears on the viewscreen.
Commander Valis:
Your time is up, Captain.
Kirk:
Commander Valis, we?ve completed our mission and are leaving your space. We respect your claim to this territory.
Commander Valis:
Very well, Captain. Do not return.
The screen goes dark.
Kirk:
Mr. Sulu, set course for the nearest starbase. Warp factor three.
Sulu:
Aye, Captain.
The Enterprise moves away from Xantora IV and jumps to warp.
Kirk:
(Musing)
So much knowledge lost, and yet, we?ve gained a new understanding of the risks we face.
Spock:
Indeed, Captain. The past holds many lessons. It is up to us to heed them.
McCoy:
And to make sure we don?t repeat their mistakes.
Kirk:
Precisely, Bones. Let?s make sure we don?t.
FADE OUT.
END CREDITS.
